Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Community Ambassador Program (CAP)?

Arlington’s Community Ambassador Program (CAP) is a volunteer opportunity for Arlington residents interested in serving as an information resource for their community.  An Ambassador will help older adults in their community learn about and navigate access to programs, services, and assistance offered in Arlington County.

Is CAP an Arlington County provided program?

Arlington Neighborhood Village (ANV), in partnership with Arlington County and Marymount University, has started the CAP.  ANV is a non-profit community-based organization whose mission is to help older adults age-in-place. CAP is a volunteer fueled system that identifies "Ambassadors" connected with civic associations, faith communities, senior centers, apartment buildings, community organizations, etc. These individuals will be trained to be a reliable source of information about the many opportunities available to older adults in Arlington.

Who qualifies for assistance from an Ambassador? Are CAP services free?

CAP services are free to Arlington residents. We rely on Ambassadors to volunteer their time to provide information outreach about programs and services for Arlington’s older adults in their neighborhood.

How do I volunteer to become an Ambassador?

Submit an interest form at Volunteer as a Community Ambassador today. We provide regular trainings to ensure you're knowledgeable, helpful, and able to provide personal outreach to Arlington's older adults, in their own neighborhoods, buildings, senior housing centers, and faith communities.

Does CAP provide emergency services?

Although our Ambassadors serve as a trusted source of information for Arlington residents, the CAP program and our Ambassadors are not an emergency response team. For life-threatening emergencies, please call 911. For non-emergency help, you can contact the Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) at (703) 228-1700.

My parents do not have internet. How can they access CAP services?

Please call CAP at (703) 509-8057, option 5, with a name and neighborhood. A volunteer will call you back to set up a phone call or meeting at a convenient time.
